Fun fact about Dondurma: I'm German, thus have had Dönerbuden and Süpermarkets and whatnot at every second corner where I grew up, but I've only heard about (and eaten) Dondurma for the first time in Japan. My father who was born in Turkey? Had never heard about Dondurma before either, but I've seen several japanese dôjinshi mentioning Dondurma instead. I'm sure there must be a shop selling Dondurma somewhere in Istanbul - but I didn't see any in five days. And now I notice that the picture on Wikipedia has plenty of Japanese written all over it... and nothing else.
Personally, I sense a genius japanese marketing plot here, they're just pretending that it's really turkish, but you won't ever find Dondurma outside of Japan, ever!

...and now I'm even more curious about an article about ice cream in the Ottoman Empire. Dammit! D:
